Returns
How long do I have to return something?
That depends on how you bought it:
-
Online purchases: you have 14 days from the date you receive your order to let us know you’d like to return it.
-
In-person purchases: you have 3 days from the date of purchase.
These timeframes apply to all items we sell — watches, straps, watch rolls, stands, and any other accessories.
What condition does the item need to be in?
We ask that everything is returned with all accompanying items included — that means the box, papers, accessories, straps, or anything else that came with it. We inspect every return when it arrives with us. For online purchases, your right to return the item within the 14-day window is not conditional on it being in unhandled, as-new condition; where something has changed — for example, an item shows more handling than needed to check it out, or something’s missing — we’ll deduct a fair amount from your refund rather than decline the return outright. For in-person purchases, the 3-day change-of-mind period is a goodwill policy rather than a legal requirement, so we do reserve the right to decline a return or adjust the refund if the item isn’t returned as sold.
How do I start a return?
Just get in touch with us by email or via the contact form on our website — our contact details are at the top and bottom of this page. Let us know your order details and the reason for the return and we’ll take it from there.
We’ll assess the item once it’s back with us and process your refund from there. Please don’t send anything back without contacting us first.
Who pays for return shipping?
Return shipping is the buyer’s responsibility. We strongly recommend using a fully insured, tracked service — we can’t be held responsible for items lost or damaged on their way back to us.
When will I get my refund?
Once we’ve received and assessed the returned item, we’ll process your refund back to your original payment method — whether that’s your card or a bank transfer. Please allow a few business days for this to come through depending on your bank or card provider.
What about mechanical issues within the return window?
If your watch develops a mechanical fault within the return period, we’ll handle it as a warranty repair rather than a return — meaning we’ll get it fixed and back to you rather than asking you to send it back for a refund. See the Warranty section below for how that works.
Warranty
What’s covered?
We stand behind the watches we sell and the work we do. Here’s what’s included:
-
All watches sold by Hautology Watches come with a one-year mechanical warranty.
-
All service and repair work carried out by us — whether on a watch you bought from us or your own — also carries a one-year warranty on that work.
The warranty runs for one year from the date you receive your watch (for purchases) or the date the work is completed and returned to you (for servicing).
If a covered issue arises, we’ll arrange for the watch to be repaired by our watchmaker and returned to you. We cover all costs associated with a valid warranty repair, including shipping.
What’s not covered?
Our warranty covers internal mechanical faults — it doesn’t cover damage caused by external factors. The following are not covered:
-
Physical damage of any kind — scratches, dents, or damage to the case, crystal, dial, hands, bezel, bracelet, or strap
-
Damage from drops, impacts, or knocks
-
Water damage — pre-owned watches may have worn gaskets or seals, and we cannot guarantee water resistance on any previously owned timepiece, regardless of its original rating
-
Damage caused by unauthorised servicing, modification, or tampering
-
Normal wear over time, including crown, gasket, and seal deterioration
-
Damage from misuse
|
A note on water resistance Pre-owned watches are not the same as new when it comes to water resistance. Gaskets and seals wear over time, and we have no way of verifying their current integrity. For this reason, we do not cover water damage under any circumstances, regardless of a watch’s stated water resistance rating. If water resistance matters to you, we recommend having the watch pressure-tested by a watchmaker before exposing it to water. |
How do I make a warranty claim?
Get in touch with us by email or via the contact form on our website with your order details and a description of the issue. Here’s what happens next:
-
We’ll ask you to send the watch back to us. Once you’ve shipped it, send us a photo of your shipping receipt and we’ll reimburse your postage.
-
The watch will be assessed and passed to our watchmaker if a covered fault is confirmed.
-
We’ll agree a repair timeline with you and keep you updated throughout.
-
Once the repair is complete, we’ll ship the watch back to you at our cost.
We ask that you use a fully insured, tracked service when sending the watch to us — we’ll cover that cost once you provide the receipt.
Does the warranty apply to accessories?
Straps, watch rolls, stands, individual watch parts (such as movement components, links, crowns, or crystals) sold on their own rather than as part of a complete watch, and other accessories are sold as described and are not covered by a mechanical warranty. They are of course still covered by the standard return window if there’s an issue on arrival.
Shipping & Delivery
Are orders insured?
Yes. Every order we dispatch is fully insured for its full sale value during transit. We take care in how we pack and ship — your watch is in safe hands on its way to you.
What if something goes wrong during delivery?
If your order is lost or damaged in transit, get in touch with us straight away. We’ll open an insurance claim and keep you updated. Any refund or replacement will be arranged once the claim is resolved.
We do ask that you make reasonable efforts to receive your delivery — keep an eye on tracking, respond to delivery notifications, and arrange re-delivery if needed. Once a parcel is marked as delivered by the courier, our transit cover ends. We’re not able to cover items that go missing after a confirmed delivery, though we’ll always do our best to help.
What if I paid by card and there’s a delay on my refund?
Where a refund is tied to an insurance claim outcome, we’ll process it as quickly as we can once the claim is settled. Please be aware that this may take some time, and we’d ask that you hold off on raising a chargeback while a claim is in progress — we’re always working to get things resolved as quickly as possible.
Still have questions?
We’re a small business and we’re always happy to talk things through. Reach out by any of the methods below and we’ll get back to you as quickly as we can.
