Welcome to Hautology Watches

For as long as I can remember, watches have been a serious part of my life. From double-wristing as a kid because I thought I looked cool to a career based on an obsession with diving headfirst into whatever reference tickled my fancy at the time, watches have always been at the epicentre of my life. Over the years throughout my career as a watch writer and as a member of several watch collector groups, I’ve built relationships with collectors across Ireland and beyond. Thanks to being a collector before anything else, and to being plugged into the industry itself, I developed a feel for what makes a watch genuinely special and, more often than not, found myself the person friends came to when they wanted to buy, sell, or just talk about watches. Hautology Watches was the natural next step.

The concept is simple and by no means new. Hautology is a private, appointment-only showroom based in the heart of Dublin where watches are given the time and context they deserve. No glass cabinets to peer through and ask for permission to try something on, no awkward sales pressure to worry about, no compromise on quality, and no door onto a busy retail street to remind you that your time in our showroom is limited, I founded Hautology with the intention of sharing my genuine passion for watchmaking with others who understand that passion for themselves already, or those want to dip their toes in and get a taste of what watchmaking is all about.

Hautology’s name itself comes from combining the words "haute" and “ology” which mean “high-end” or “elevated”, and “the study of”. Ultimately, that’s what Hautology is about, the studious examination of high-end and exciting watches. Throughout my career as a watch writer, I’ve been obsessed with detail, and that is something I wanted to permeate everything here about Hautology. It’s not just in the inventory we curate, the listings we write, or the photos we take; it’s in every bit of the experience you have when dealing with us. From the moment you step into our showroom and through your entire collecting journey, Hautology will be focused on the fine details that differentiate a good experience from an incredible one, because at the end of the day, it is a business built on the idea that buying, selling, or consigning a watch shouldn’t be anything but an overwhelmingly positive experience.

I'm excited to start bringing some genuinely interesting pieces to the market here in Ireland and creating a space for collectors to buy, sell, and consign luxury watches in a discreet and private atmosphere. If you can’t make it into our showroom, I’m also dedicated to creating exceptionally detailed listings fuelled by my work and passion as a watch writer. If you can’t hold the watch in your hand, the least you deserve is as much information as you can possibly handle before you decide to buy it.

Going forward, I'll be writing in my blog regularly, sharing my honest thoughts on watches I love, talking about the pieces we have coming through, delving into industry news and talking about whatever else that feels like it’s worth saying, so thank you for taking the time to see what Hautology is about, and I hope you’ll pop in for a visit to see our selection of watches, and maybe even make a deal. No worries if not, as long as you have something cool on your wrist at least.
