IWC at their tool-watch-best before they went hard into the sphere of luxury in the 2000s, the IWC 3706 is one of the best neo-vintage chronographs money can buy, especially when you control for cost.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePowered by the automatic Valjoux cal. 7750 movement with both the day and date in addition to its chronograph function, an incredibly legible tritium dial that shouts the time at you (which was swapped for a luminova version in the second generation) and a robust construction, it is a wonderfully balanced joy on the wrist. A relative bargain on the market considering what it offers, its history, its design, its craftsmanship and what it has gone on to inspire in IWC's modern catalogue, this watch is IWC at their very best before they went into the super luxurious world that they have since decided to reside within. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Condition\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOffered with its original tritium dial and hands, which have aged to a nice soft creamy colour, this example’s display is a delight. In addition to its original dial, this example also features its original fish crown, a common part to be swapped at service for the later IWC-branded crowns from the post-2000s examples (much like the non-tritium dials). Presented with its original pyramid bracelet (comfortably fitting a wrist up to 7.5”), this example is as good as this reference gets. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSupplied with its original box and 1998-dated, stamped, and serialised original IWC guarantee card (papers), this example is a true collector’s item. The white finish on the box is crumbling, however, as these older boxes notoriously do over the years. The white outer coating dries up and flakes off from the substrate underneath.
